April 2008 update:

Dewatering of the new Main Library site is ongoing, and pouring the pad was completed. The south retention basin was excavated, and they began pouring footings and installing utilities.

 

The San Luis Branch draft GMP was reviewed. The Tribal review period for the land ended on April 28th.

 

The Wellton Branch is substantially complete and ready for the move-in, FFE installation began, and datalphone/av installation began. The old library closed for packing and the move.

 

The Somerton Branch groundbreaking was held April 14. Site grading and replacement of the manhole started while awaiting the construction permit.

 

The Foothills Branch roof decking was completed, along with the shear wall sheathing. The mechanical and electrical installations are on-going.

 

The Heritage Branch drywall, HVAC, and ceiling installation is nearing completion. The third public walk-through was held on April 16.

 

 

March 2008 update:

 

Wellton Branch Library will be substantially complete by the end of this month!  Then all the hard work begins and the library must move. The Grand Opening is scheduled for Saturday May 17, 2008.  

 

Foothills Library walls are framed and electrical installation is beginning. Heritage monitorsThe new light monitors, or clerestories, are framed and sheathed at Heritage Library on all four corners.

The GMP for Somerton Branch was approved by the Board February 20, 2008. Asbestos abatement has been completed at the “annex” and demolition will begin in March.  The Groundbreaking for the expansion has been scheduled for April 14, 2008.   

 

The BLM environmental review of San Luis Branch is being completed and bids are currently being solicited for the first draft GMP. The current anticipated start date of construction is May 2008.

 

The Groundbreaking for the Main Library was a huge success on February 4 followed by the Moshe Safdie lecture. Construction has begun and progress photos will be posted to the web site.

January 2008 update:

 

The concrete footings have been poured for the Foothills Branch, and they are building the frames for more concrete pours. We anticipate that this branch will open in July or August of 2008. The Wellton walls are up, and they are framing the glass storefronts. This branch is scheduled to be completed by May 12, 2008, and a grand opening event will be scheduled. The steel beams at Heritage are being installed, and the inside walls have been removed. The design documents for the Somerton Branch are ready. The design will be presented to the Somerton City Council this month. Staff is in the process of installing the computers and upgrades in Roll and Dateland. There is no news on the BLM land transfer for the San Luis Branch. The February 4 groundbreaking ceremony for Main is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Children will join Booker in digging in the area where Booker’s cave is located. A 6:00 p.m. reception and a 7:00 p.m. presentation titled “The Library as an Urban Meeting Place” by internationally known architect Moshe Safdie will be held at Cibola High School.

 

December 2007 update:

 

The BLM land for the San Luis Library is still under public and tribal review. The additional asbestos removal at Heritage Branch has been completed, and they are currently installing the miscellaneous metals and metal studs. The slab preparation and underground utilities are being done at the Foothills site. Design development is continuing at the Somerton branch, and demolition will in February. We are still anticipating the installation of the computers for Dateland and Roll during Christmas break. The groundbreaking for the new Main Library is scheduled for Monday February 4, 2008, at 4:30 p.m.

 

November 2007 Update:

 

The remodeling of the Heritage Branch has begun with interior demolition. The conceptual design of the Somerton branch expansion was approved by the Board of Supervisors on November 5, 2007, and a community open house was held at the Somerton Branch Library that evening.

September 2007 Update:

  

Groundbreaking for the Foothills Branch was held September 26 at 9:00 am on the site located at 13226 E. South Frontage Road, which is east of the Sheriff’s Substation on S. Frontage Road and east of Foothills Blvd.

 

Drawings for the Heritage Branch Remodel are being submitted to the City for construction permitting this month.

 

Design Development drawings and estimates for the new main library are being reviewed this month.

 

The schematic design documents for the Somerton Branch Expansion are tentatively scheduled to be presented to the Board of Supervisors on November 5, 2007. This is also tentatively the date for the first public open house. Details to be posted on the main library web site soon.

 

August 2007 Update:

 

Groundbreaking for the Wellton Branch was held on July 18. Construction is expected to be completed Spring 2008.

 

The Guaranteed Maximum Price for the Foothills Branch was submitted to and approved by the Board of Supervisors on August 6. Pending final completion of the land transfer from the County, with ADOT’s approval, a groundbreaking in September 2007 is expected. Stay tuned for more details.

 

The Guaranteed Maximum Price Proposal for the Heritage Remodel has been received and is expected to be presented to the Board of Supervisors in late August.

 

The first design kickoff meeting for the Somerton Branch Expansion was held in July. This is the last of the bond construction projects. The first public open house for this project is expected to take place in the fall.

 

Technology improvements for Dateland and Roll are also underway.

 

July 2007 Update:

 

On July 2, the Yuma County Board of Supervisors approved the Yuma Main Library schematic design, and authorized proceeding with the design development.

 

June 2007 Update:

 

Procurement of design and construction services for the Somerton Branch Library Expansion was completed in May. 

 

Design/Build Services for the Somerton Branch Library Expansion were awarded at the June 4, 2007 Board of Supervisors meeting to DPE Construction with Lawrence Enyart Architects (LEA).

 

Construction Award and Groundbreaking for the Wellton Branch Library is expected in early July.

 

A GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) proposal for the Heritage Branch Remodel is expected in June.

 

Design Development Drawings are being prepared for the Foothills Branch.

 

The first public open house for the San Luis Library was held in April. Schematic Designs will be presented to the Board of Supervisors on June 18th.

April 2007 Update:

 

Public open houses for the designs of the Wellton and Foothills Branch Libraries, as well as the Heritage remodel were held in February and March. The open house for the new San Luis Branch Library will be from 5-7 pm on Monday April 2, 2007 at the San Luis Cultural Center. Please contact the main library at 373-6460 for more information. The first public open house for the new main library design is scheduled for Monday May 7, time and location TBA.

 

Procurement of design and construction services for the Somerton Branch Library Expansion has begun. An award is expected to be announced in late April.

January 2007 Update:

 

The Yuma County Main Library has reopened in its temporary location at 185 South Main Street.

 

Design has started on the new main library, Yuma County South Complex, Foothills Branch, Wellton Branch and the Heritage Branch (remodel of the former main library). Public input meetings will be held in Spring 2007. Meeting schedules and locations will be posted on our web site.

 

Procurement of design and construction services for the Somerton Branch Library Expansion will begin in early 2007. Requests for Qualifications will be posted on Yuma County’s web site when available.

 

December 2006 Update:

 

On December 21, the Yuma Library closed to finalize the move to our temporary location at 185 Main Street. The Yuma Library will reopen for the public at the temporary location on January 2, 2007

 

November 2006 Update:

 

The Yuma County Board of Supervisors awarded the following project at the November 20, 2006, meeting. 

 

Design/Build Services for the Heritage Branch Library (currently the Yuma Main Library) was awarded to Brignall Construction with Studio Ma Architects

The Library District has completed the process of selecting designers and contractors for the new Wellton Branch Library and the Yuma County South Complex. The Yuma County Board of Supervisors awarded the following projects at the October 16, 2006, meeting. 

 

Design/Build Services for the Wellton Branch Library was awarded to DPE Construction (Welles Pugsley Architects and Barry Patterson Architects)

 

Construction Manager at Risk Preconstruction Services for the Yuma County South Complex was awarded to Yuma Valley Contractors

 

Architectural and Engineering Services for the Yuma County South Complex was awarded to VCBO Architecture
